Is open to award of a research grant for MSc under the Project Life LINES, titled “Linear Infrastructure Networks with Ecological Solutions”, reference LIFE14 NAT/PT/001081, funding by the program Life of the European Commission, under the following conditions:
Field of study: Biology
Admission requirements: Candidates with an MSc degree in the areas of Biology may apply for this scholarship. Preference is given to candidates who have experience in herpetology and road ecology, experience in fieldwork, mainly with amphibians, and experience in geographical information systems and GPS devices. It is essential that the candidate has a high level of writing and communicating in English.
Work plan: The scholarship aims to provide support to the task A4 “Developing, testing, and validation of automatised systems for monitoring and dissuation” of the project Life LINES. The specific objectives are:
Operation/Validation of prototypes of automatic monitoring.
Comparing with traditional monitoring provided by UEVORA.
GIS analyses of data obtained.
Applicable laws and regulations: Law no. 40/2004 of 18 August (Statute of the Scholarship for Scientific Research) with subsequent amendments; Foundation Research Grants Regulation for Science and Technology, IP into force (http://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/docs/RegulamentoBolsasFCT2015.pdf) and the Scholarship Regulations of the University of Porto.
Workplace: The work will be developed at Research Center on Geo-Spatial Science (CICGE) of the Faculty of Science of University of Porto at Astronomical Observatory Prof. Manuel de Barros under the scientific supervision of Dr. Neftalí Sillero.
Duration of the Grant: Grant contract will be expected to start in October 2016 with a duration of 3 months on an exclusive basis.
Value of monthly maintenance allowance: The amount of the grant corresponds to 980 € per month according to the scholarships values of FCT, I.P. in the country (http://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores).
The payment will be performed by bank transfer.
Selection methods: Evaluation will be based mostly on CV evaluation (100%). However, a live interview aiming final candidate selection may be needed for a subset of candidates that fulfil the background and skills required for the grant. If interviews will be needed, evaluation will be based on CV (50%) + interview (50%). The jury may decide not to award the grant if no candidate fulfils the requested skills.

Form of advertising / notification of results: The final results of the evaluation will be published through the list ranked by the final classification, sent to the candidates by registered mail, by which requests indication of the full address in the application process.
