A call is open to award 1 Research Fellowship (Reference nº ICETA-2016-33) under the project “Ecopotential: improving future ecosystem benefits through earth observations”, ref. nº641762-2, funded by the European Union in the scope of the H2020 Program, H2020-SC5-2014-two-stage, under the following conditions:
Candidates will be admitted to the competition when demonstrating: (i) a M.Sc. title in Biological Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Geography, Engineering, Mathematical Sciences or Computer Sciences; (ii) experience in analysis and modeling of ecological or environmental spatial data; and (iii) experience with spatial metadata and spatial data quality assessment. Preference will be given to candidates with proven experience in: (i) spatial data management and database development; (ii) GIS and spatial data infrastructure development; (iii) Research and Development (R&D) projects involving ecosystem assessment and/or modeling; and (iv) oral and written communication of scientific results.
The successful candidate will support project tasks related to the management and quality analysis of spatial data to feed ecosystem models at regional and local scales, using advanced methods, tools and computational environments. Such tasks will include: (1) developing methodological standards for identification, collection and management of pre-existing spatial (meta)data; (2) assessment of internal quality of spatial data (ISO 19157), especially for earth observation and in situ spatial data; (3) development of spatial data quality procedures for large knowledge networks and emphasizing users’ requirements (external quality); and (4) collaboration in writing technical reports and scientific publications.

The work will be conducted at ESA-IPVC (Refóios do Lima, Ponte de Lima) and at CIBIO-InBIO headquarters (Vairão, Vila do Conde), Portugal.
Duration of the fellowship:
The fellowship will have a duration of 12 months, starting in May 2016. The fellowship may be renewed up for an additional 12 month period.
Monthly stipend is €980 according to the stipends established by FCT, I.P. in Portugal (http://alfa.fct.mctes.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores). Payment will be made by bank transfer on a monthly basis.
The ranking of candidates will result of the appreciation of the Curriculum vitae considering the evaluation criteria and work plan described above (70%) and of the quality of the motivation letter (30%). The Jury might decide not to award the fellowship if the profiles of the candidates do not meet the required qualifications and experience.

Publicity and communication of results:
The ranking of the candidates will be published at a visible and public area of ICETA facilities, and all candidates will be informed about the result of their application by email.
